Information has been revealed regarding the local connections to the foreign ship taken into custody with 60 kilos of drugs close to the Galle Harbour.

Navy Spokesman, Lieutenant Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara said that information has been revealed that the fishing vessel which was taken into custody day before yesterday together with four Sri Lankan suspects had connections with this foreign vessel.  The Navy Spokesman said that investigations are being carried out accordingly.

This vessel which did not have a flag or a registration sign was taken into custody yesterday in the seas close to the Galle Port, on a tip-off received by the Navy Intelligence Division.

When the vessel was inspected 60 kilos of drugs which were on board were discovered.

It is suspected that these drugs are Heroin and the Navy said that the vessel will be brought to shore and a laboratory test has to be done to obtain confirmation that it is indeed Heroin.

The 9 foreigners on the vessel were taken into the custody of the Navy and Navy Spokesman, Lieutenant Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara said that it cannot be determined exactly from which country they are.

The vessel with drugs taken into custody will be brought to shore this evening together with the suspects.
