Fisherman warned against leaving ports - 22 shops in Ginigathhena at risk

The MET department warns fishermen to refrain from using the sea areas extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantotafor fishing activities until tomorrow morning as the wind speed can increase up to 70 kmph.

The department further noted that waves in sea areas from Puttlam to Colombo and Matara via Galle could rise up to 2.5 to 3.5 metres.

8 deaths have been reported so far owing to the adverse weather.

Furthermore the assistant director of the disaster management centre Pradeep Kodippili says that the landslide warnings issued to two districts are still effective.

Meanwhile the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha said that 22 shops in the Ginigathhena town are facing a risk of landslides.

Its’ Chairman Jayashanka Perera said that they will cancel the permits of the shop owners who will not vacate the premises.
