The three-member High Court today informed the defense attorney to inform the court on the 30th of this month if there are any objections to the Attorney General’s decision to remove one of the indictments in the case filed against former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

This was when the case filed by Attorney General against Gotabaya Rajapaksa and seven others for the misappropriation of Rs. 33.9 million of public funds for the construction of the D.A.Rajapaksa Memorial and Museum in Medamulana and several other charges were taken up for hearing  by the judges Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Attorney General informed the special High Court regarding the Supreme Court order preventing the hearing of evidence of trail against the former Defense Secretary until 1st October

Additional Solicitor General Priyantha Navana appearing on behalf of the Attorney General agreed to the revision on the 5th indictment when the petition filed by former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa against the indictment filed by the Attorney General was taken up before the Supreme Court yesterday.

Therefore the three member special High Court bench decided not to call for witnesses until an order is given from the Supreme Court.

However, the three member special High Court bench decided to continue the normal proceeding of the case. The case will be called on the 30th  August.

Former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse appeared before the special High Court for the hearing of the case filed against him for misappropriation of Rs. 33.9 million of public funds for the construction of the D.A.Rajapaksa Memorial and Museum in Medamulana including several other charges.

The date of issuing a ruling on a petition filed by former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa requesting acquittal, over the Avant Garde case, filed by the bribery commission,  has been fixed for August 30 by the Appeal Court.

The Bribery Commission had filed a case at the Colombo Magistrate’s court naming Rajapaksa and a few others as suspects for causing losses worth Rs 11.4 billion to the government by permitting operations of the Avante Garde floating armoury.

Gotabahaya Rajapakse had filed a petition for acquittal, over the Avant Garde case.

The petition was called before the appeal court judges Deepani Wijesundera and Achala Wennapuli.
