The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors association stated that they can intervene if complaints are received from the public the waste that has been imported from England is harmful to public health.

Secretary to the union Mahinda Balasuriya stated that no such complaint has been received so far.

He also stated that the public health inspectors are unable to act on this matter since the waste containers in the Colombo Harbour has not entered the country.

Meanwhile, the Central Environment Authority had previously stated that they are going to obtain a Government Analyst’s report to ascertain whether there are human remains in the waste containers.

However, our inquiries have revealed that the Government Analyst’s Department has not received the relevant samples as at date.  

It has been reported that there are 111 containers with waste at the Colombo Harbour while 130 containers are at the Katunayaka Free trade Zone.

However, the organisation that imported the waste stated that out of the 130 containers in the Katunayake Free trade zone, waste from 30 containers have been sorted, recycled and re-exported in 17 containers.
