The protest in front of the Department of Wildlife in Jayanthipura, Battaramulla by the wild life trackers   is continuing. They are calling for the suspension of new recruits and the immediate confirmation of the 357 volunteer guides to the permanent cadre.

During the protest, the trackers had a discussion with the Director General of Wildlife M.G.C. Sooriyabandara. However, the President of the All Island Wildlife Trackers Trade Union W.M. Chandrapala said that they did not receive a suitable solution to the problem.

When contacted Director General of Wildlife, M.G.S. Suriyabandara said that they are paying attention to the issues of the wildlife trackers. He further stated that this will not hinder the trekking activities of National Parks and Sanctuaries.

Meanwhile the Railway Trade Union Alliance stated that they will resort to a trade union action if solutions to their demands including the confirmation of temporary staff to the permanent cadre  within the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, Grama Niladharis have withdrawn from the ‘one day service’ to issue National Identity Cards based on 13 demands including salary anomalies. Speaking to the Hiru news team the president of the Sri Lanka Grama Niladhari Association Sumith Kodikara stated that if the problems are not resolved the trade union action will be tightened.
