The UNP central working committee meeting ended empty handed due to a Constitutional issue which erupted with regard to the formation of the new political alliance today.

The meeting was generally held at the party headquarters, Sirikotha, but it was chaired by party leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Temple trees today.

The majority of the central working committee was of the opinion that certain Sections of the proposed political alliance should be amended. 

The central working committee members insisted that the party should claim the General Secretary position of the new alliance.

Meanwhile, party general secretary, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the prospective presidential candidate will be announced after the formation of the new alliance.
