President Maithripala Sirisena says that the Attorney General informed him the Private Bill presented to parliament in order to annul the execution of drug convicts is illegal.

He made this statement while addressing a ceremony held in Divulapitiya today.

The President said that certain Government ministers are linked to the destruction of one of the natural resources in the Gampaha District – Muturajawela Sanctuary.

In addition, President Sirisena expressed his views over the fatal illicit liquor incident where several persons died after consuming poisonous brew at Pallewela.

Meanwhile, three provincial governors and two state ministers were sworn in before the President this morning.

Accordingly, Maithri Gunarathna was sworn in as the Uva provincial governor, Keerthi Tennakoon as the Central provincial governor and Hemal Gunesekera as the Southern Provincial governor were sworn in before the President.

The Presidents Media Unit stated that in addition to the three swearing-ins, Anoma Gamage was sworn in as the state minister for Petroleum Resources and Development while Lucky Jayawardana was sworn in as the state minister for Urban Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education.
