The health department requests those who consumed alcohol from the illicit liquor producer in Banduragoda - Pallewela area to immediately be hospitalized.

So far 13 people have died after consuming alcohol and more than 20 are still receiving treatment in several hospitals.

Nine persons have been admitted to the Dambadeniya hospital for treatment yesterday and two of them have been transferred to other hospitals. Some of them have been hospitalized after the incident was reported in the media.

Two persons who had consumed liquor at the relevant distillery have been admitted to the Mirigama Hospital yesterday.

Mirigama Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Ranasinghe said that it has been reported that the illicit liquor produced in the area has been distributed to other areas as well.

The owner of this liquor distillery and another person have been remanded after the incident.

The OIC of the Pallewela Police Station has also been transferred to the Kalutara Police Superintendent's Office, alleging that the law was not implemented against these liquor manufacturers.

The police have launched an investigation under the SSP in Negombo in this regard.

The court has issued open verdicts on postmortem investigations into the deaths.

A senior police officer in charge of the area told Hiru news team that the liquor produced in the distillery was sent to the Government Analyst for further inspection.
