The government withdrew the Sri Lanka Electricity Amendment Bill, which was to be debated in Parliament.

This was subsequent to the information from the Attorney General stating that some of its provisions were contrary to the Constitution.

Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa raised the matter before the House and in response, the Leader of the House, Lakshman Kiriella, said that the Attorney General had provided a notification this morning.

The Leader of the House stated that accordingly, the government would withdraw it without debate on the issue.

Accordingly, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has taken steps to postpone Parliament until tomorrow.
