The Joint Opposition party today accused the Minister of Health for failing to address the shortage of medicines in several hospitals including the Maharagama ‘Apeksha’ hospital.

MP Indika Anuruddha stated this while addressing a question seeking an oral reply.

When Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne responded, a tense situation arose and Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri intervened.

An adjournment motion submitted by the Joint Opposition regarding the signing of agreements that are detrimental to the country is currently being debated in Parliament.

In the meantime, for the first time in the history of Parliament, the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), is scheduled to open its proceedings to the media this afternoon in room 5.

It is under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and COPE Chairman JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti.
