The Kurunegala Magistrate ordered today to postpone the case against Dr Mohamed Shafi Shihabdeen until December 12th.

The case was taken before Magistrate Sampath Hewawasam for the 4th time today.

The case has been filed against Dr Shafi for amassing money through illegal means, aiding and abetting terrorism and unlawful sterilization.

Dr Shihabdeen appeared before the Court today.

The CID has submitted to 1the court a 12 paged report on the investigations it conducted against Dr Shafi.

Meanwhile, The three-bench special High Court issued an arrest warrant against the first defendant of the Central bank bond scam, former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran.

The warrant was issued by a three-judge bench comprising of Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.

The Attorney General informed the court that the former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran is currently staying in Singapore.

The court also ordered that summons be handed over to the 10th defendant, Ajan Gaardiya Punchihewa, the former Director of the Perpetual Treasury Company, who is residing in Singapore avoiding courts, and to provide a report to the courts when the case is called for hearing on the 4th of December.

Meanwhile, The Attorney General has requested the Chief Justice to appoint a trial-at-bar to hear the case regarding the abduction and murder of journalist Pradeep Eknaligoda.

The AG’s coordinating officer Nishara Jayarathna said that the trial-at-bar has been requested to hear the case at the Homagama High Court.

Meanwhile, The National Police Commission Secretary Saman Dissanayake and three other suspects arrested in connection with the Avant Garde incident were further remanded until August 23.

The suspects were produced before Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela today.

Retired Major General Palitha Fernando, Karunarathna Bandara Adhikari and Raknalanka former chairman Victor Samaraweera are also in remand in connection with the same case.
