The Eid – ul – Adha hajj festival of the Muslims is celebrated across the world today.

The main objective of the Hajj festival is to create equality and brotherhood by bridging the gap between the rich and the poor and various other differences.

President Maithripala Sirisena extended his felicitations for the celebration of the Hajj festival and said that this festival of Islamic devotees coming from all over the world to worship God in a spirit of co-existence and harmony results in the discipline to live in equality with believers of other religions.

Hajj pilgrimage is the final element of the obligatory rituals of Islam.

The Hajj Festival also serves as an example of the glorification of interconnectedness of humanity in a world confused by chaos.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of Hajj, saying that the main objective of the Hajj festival is to bridge the gap in society and to create equality and brotherhood. The Prime Minister further noted that this could be also called an International Conference on World Peace where the adherents of Islam from all over the world meet without any difference or segregation rubbing shoulder to shoulder in worship to their God.
