Wildlife officials has arrested a man who had gone hunting with a firearm in the Hambantota - Sanhindagama area.

The suspect was arrested during a mobile patrol search operation carried out by the Navy personnel and wildlife officers in the area yesterday.

A locally manufactured firearm and a large quantity of ammunition to be used for the firearm have been found in his possession.

The mobile patrol search operation has been launched following reports that wild animals are being hunted in the area.
