The parliamentary select committee investigating the Easter Sunday attacks is to convene today.

The evidence hearing is to commence at 3.30 pm onwards, and the members of the special tri-member investigation committee appointed by the president are to testify.

Accordingly its chairman Supreme Court judge, justice, Vijith Malalgoda, former secretary to ministry, Padmasiri Jayamanne and former IGP N.K Illangakoon are to testify before the committee.

It was initially decided that the final report of the select committee to be issued before the 23rd of August.

However as more time was required an extension was received to issue to final report by the 23rd of September.

Meanwhile, COPE is to convene at 2pm today.

For the first time the COPE was open to media on the 9th of August and the special technical system equipped with high tech cameras were declared open under the auspices of speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

Accordingly the COPE will be accessible to the media today.
