Adequate security has been requested from the Inspector General of Police by the Colombo Municipal Council to transport the garbage collected in Colombo to the Aruvakkaru waste disposal yard.

Municipal Commissioner Palitha Nanayakkara told the Hiru news team that a written request has been submitted to the Inspector General of Police regarding this matter yesterday.

The Municipal Commissioner stated that this request has been made considering the disturbance caused to the garbage-carrying tippers.

Several garbage tippers carrying garbage from Colombo to Aruvakkaluwa have been pelted with stones on several occasions and the recent most incident was reported near Puttalam town yesterday.

Police have arrested three persons who were involved in the stone attack.

The Hatton - Police have commenced investigation on two women who dumped garbage near a house on the main road of the Hatton-Bandaranayaka housing complex.

The Marine Environmental Unit has launched a special investigation regarding the black matter that have been washed ashore at the Mullaitivu beach.

According to the Hiru correspondent as a result of this incident, a large quantity of black matter was found in the coastal belt from Mullaitivu, Nayaru to Kokilai yesterday afternoon.

Marine Environmental Protection Authority General Manager Terni Pradeep Kumara told the Hiru news team that he will get a report on the matter after an on-site inspection conducted by the Trincomalee and Killinochchi office officials today.
