“We discussed with the Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. We spoke specifically about the problems faced by our people. First, we focused our attention on reaching a political solution. We have called for the 19th Amendment to be fully implemented and strengthened to find solutions to the political problems we have faced. We also requested employment to around 100,000 people in the North and East, relief to those who have lost their homes and lands and to provide solutions to the issue of the disappeared and to erect a memorial in Vellamulil Vaikkal area in remembrance of the people who died in the last stages of the war. I have presented a private members bill to erect this monument and that has got approved. We also asked Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to provide relief to the female headed households affected by the war and microfinance loans. Many issues of the Tamil people were considered in this discussion and I can say that the discussion was at a level where we can place our trust confidently”.
