The Sri Lanka Information Technology Association said that the risk of unauthorized access of Facebook accounts by unidentified parties have emerged.

It has now been revealed that this operation is being carried out using a fake website similar to the Facebook site through a referral sent by an unknown person to obtain passwords and usernames on Facebook.

Accordingly, the unknown party will log in to the relevant Facebook account and change its email address and password, resulting in the account holder losing control of the account.

The Sri Lanka Information Technology Society (SLTEC) has stated that it is not possible to retrieve Facebook accounts that have been taken over by unidentified parties in this manner.

Most of the time accounts are created with pornographic material and this unidentified party request the account holder to login to their Facebook page given by them to remove the content.

Therefore, the Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka urges the public to be vigilant of this situation.

They also remind users to keep their Facebook account security high without following the minimum-security protocols.
