The highest rainfall recorded during the 24 hours which ended at 8.30 am today was reported from Hanwella which was 102.5mm.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department said that rain exceeding 100mm could be experienced further in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern Provinces.

It is expected that wind speeds, especially in the Northern, Northcentral and Northwestern Provinces as well the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts will increase to 60 kilometers per hour.

Increase in rain in the Southwestern quarter of the island can also be expected.

There is also a possibility that certain areas in the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Nuwara Eliya district of experiencing rains of more than 150mm.
