A recommendation provided by the Attorney Generals department requesting that the parliamentary post held by former governor M.L.A.M Hisbullah from 2010 to 2015 be suspended has been directed to speaker Karu Jayasuriya by the education and human resource development supervisory executive committee.

He had being a signatory for an agreement signed between the Lanka Heera foundation and the ministry of skills development and vocational training for the establishment of the Batticaloe campus private institution on the 11th of June in 2013.

He had signed the respective agreement as the chairman of the Sri Lanka Heera foundation.

Further the attorney generals department has informed that he had signed for an agreement between the Sri Lankas board of investments and the Batticaloe campus private institution on the 17th of July 2015 while being a member of parliament.

According to the parliamentary law, if an individual is to authorize a transaction or contract pertaining to the government, he or she will not be eligible to be hold a parliamentary position from then onwards.

Furthermore he has been a director of the Batticaloe campus private institution, and it was later revealed that the funds received by the state bank account of the university was provided by another faction and not through a loan as stated before.

It has been reported that the attorney generals department has also advised the necessary units to conduct a financial investigation as the sources of the funds received to establish the Batticaloe campus private institution appear to be problematic.

According to the recommendations of the Attorney Generals department, the education and human resource development supervisory executive committee has informed the speaker to suspend former governor M.L.A.M Hizbullah’s parliamentary position from 2010-2015 in a manner which affects the past.
