Recent studies on the physical and mental development of school children have revealed that they are suffering from various nutritional problems.

It has been established that one of the main reasons for nutritional problems is the wrong eating habits of children.

The Ministry of Education further stated that children are also at risk of contracting other diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes, cancer, non-communicable diseases and dental diseases due to extreme obesity, excess weight and stunted growth.

The Minister of Education has instructed the officials to maintain school cafeterias in a manner so that children can be guided on proper eating habits considering these observations.

A circular has been issued to the heads of all schools regarding maintaining hygienically sound cafeterias in school.

According to the National Nutrition Policy, qualitative and quantitative nutritious food should be provided instead of fast foods and carbonated drinks.
