Driver of one train, two guards and a driver assistant have been suspended in connection with accident of the two trains that collided head-on between Maradana and Fort railway stations.

The General Manager of Railways Dilantha Fernando told our news team that they were interdicted following a preliminary inquiry.

A train traveling from Colombo to Chilaw and a train traveling from Maradana to Kalutara collided head-on between Maradana and Fort railway stations

However, the trains and the passengers were not harmed from the accident.

The accident had occurred since the train traveling from Colombo to Chilaw and a train traveling from Maradana to Kalutara were on the same track.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the reason for the accident has been as a result of the train from Maradana to Kalutara ignoring the railway signals.

The General Manager of Railways Dilantha Fernando further stated that the driver, two guards and the driver assistant of the 742 train traveling from Maradana to Kalutara have been interdicted.
