The Department of Meteorology states that they are expecting a slight increase in the rainfall prevalent in the South Western areas tomorrow.

Therefore, the Department stated that eight districts could experience heavy rain fall of around 100 to 150 mm within the next 24 hours.

Due to the prevailing inclement weather conditions, a branch of a Bo tree in the Elpitiya - Pitigala - Kallabada junction collapsed last night causing traffic congestion and disrupting travel on the Elpitiya - Mapalagama and Elpitiya - Bambarawana roads.

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) stated that 1,121 persons belonging to 281 families from 11 Districts have been affected by the heavy rains experienced this month from the 9thonwards.

Meanwhile, according to the Center, more than 17 districts are facing dry weather conditions elsewhere. 694,457 persons belonging to 195,685 families have been affected by the dry weather period.

The highest rainfall recorded for the last 24 hours, which ended at 8.30 am today, was from the Galle District. It was 50.5 millimeters.
