Former Kurunegala District MP Shantha Bandara said that he will take legal action if he is not appointed to the parliament seat vacant with the demise of MP Salinda Dissanayake.

Speaking at a press conference held at the SLFP headquarters today, he said that although it has been nearly a month since the death of MP Salinda Dissanayake, this vacancy has not yet been filled.

Shantha Bandara is the next UPFA candidate in Kurunegala District with the highest preferential vote after Salinda Dissanayake.

However, at the time of the death of Salinda Dissanayake, Shantha Bandara was representing parliament through the National List and the former Provincial Councilor D.B. Herath was next in line to fill the vacant post from the Kurunegala District.

However, Shantha Bandara resigned from his post on August 7, stating that he wanted to be in parliament from the peoples vote.

When a senior parliamentarian was contacted he stated that although the Elections Commission has been informed of the vacant seat, a representative for the vacant slot has not been nominated.
