The Kurunegala District Secretariat stated that it expects to submit the name of the nominee to the Elections Commission to enable it to fill the parliament seat vacated by the death of Salinda Dissanayake this coming Monday.

Earlier, the returning officer of Kurunegala, Gamini Ilangarathna sought the Attorney General’s advice in this regard.

Later, the Attorney General’s coordinating officer Nishara Jayarathna told our news team that the Attorney General’s opinion had already been submitted to the Chairman of the Elections Commission.

However, former Kurunegala District MP Shantha Bandara stated today that he would take legal action unless he is appointed to parliament to fill the vacated seat.

Shantha Bandara is second after Late MP Dissanayake on the preferential list.

However, Shantha Bandara functioned as a national list MP at the time of the MP Dissanayake’s demise.

Therefore, former Provincial Councilor DB Herath had become eligible on the preferential list to enter parliament.

Meanwhile, Shantha Bandara resigned from parliament recently intending to return to the preferential list.
