A majority of the members of the Daayaka Sabawa of the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya voted in favour of the removal of Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe from the post of chairman of the Dayaka Sabha.

This is when the dayaka sabha convened last afternoon under the patronage of chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya Venerable Professor Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkitha Thero.

Over 100 members had voted in favour of the prime ministers removal from the position of chairman while 7 voted against the proposal.

Following this it was decided that prime minister Ranil Wickramasinghe would be removed from the position of chairman of the Kelaniya Raja Maha viharaya Dayaka sabha.

Such a change in chairmanship in the dayaka sabha at the Kelaniya Raja Maha viharayaka is taking place after 35 years.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe is scheduled to leave on an official visit to Maldives today.

The prime minister’s office noted that prime minister would be engaging in a three day official visit upon the invitation of Premier Ibrahim Mohammed Sali.

The representatives are to sign 4 MoUs pertaining to the provision of Visa services, societal assurance, vocational training and youth development as well as higher education.

Premier Ranil Wickramasinghe will be chairing the Indian Ocean Summit which is to be held today and tomorrow at the Paradise island resort in Maldives.
