The Attorney General Dappula Livera requested the Supreme Court today to dismiss the affidavit submitted by the suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundera with regard to the 12 petitions filed against the latter’s failure to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.

The 12 fundamental petitions against former defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando and suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundera for not taking action to prevent the attacks were taken for hearing before the court today.

Appearing for the Colombo Bishop, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, Presidents Counsel Shameel Perera said the catastrophe could have been prevented had the Cardinal been made aware of the attacks.

At the same time, the Attorney General objected when Attorney at law Viran Corea started to make submissions on behalf of the Suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundera and former defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando.

Attorney General Livera charged that the suspended IGP’s certain statements to which he referred as a conspiracy against him by the Attorney General, the president, and the State Intelligence Chief are malicious and the suspended IGP’s affidavit is therefore attempts to mislead the court.

He further said that the suspended IGP has used his affidavit to make charges against him at a personal level.

He said he never engaged in any conversation with the president and discharges the responsibility that is tasked on him.

He requested the 7 judge bench not to allow the suspended IGP to take political advantage out of the court.
