Speaker Karu Jayasuriya adjourned parliamentary sessions for 10 minutes this afternoon due to a dispute over the voting for several clauses under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act.

During the debate, the opposition members demanded a vote when MP Sriyani Wijewickrama was in the chair.

Several government MPs who were supposed to speak on behalf of the provisions were not in the Chamber at the time.

However, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella stated that the election would be held tomorrow.

Opposition MPs protested against postponing the vote and MP Sriyani Wijewickrama who was in the chair declared that the voting should be held in the face of this controversy.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya came to the Chair when the government MPs were speaking against the vote and then he subsequently adjourned Parliament to convene a party leader's meeting.
