The Supreme Court questioned the former Defense Secretary why he failed to make the Cardinal aware of the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks while having received such information from the State Intelligence.

The 12 fundamental petitions filed against the failure to take action to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks were taken for hearing before the 7-judge bench today.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Dappula Livera informed the court that he filed written objections to the affidavit submitted by suspended IGP Pujith Jayasundera.

The Attorney General requested the court yesterday to dismiss Jayasundra’s affidavit as it has made malicious allegations against him.

At the same time, Presidents Counsel Anuja Premarathna who appeared for the former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando told the court that his client’s position was not that powerful as it appears.

He said that his client in his capacity as the Defence Secretary prepared formal reports containing the information provided by the Intelligence services and submitted them to relevant authorities.
