The National Zoological Trade Unions Federation are engaged in a token strike today as authorities have not responded to their demands.

The collective pointed out that even though they have asked the authorities for more than a year to increase the accident allowance by Rs. 5,000 and the attendance allowance by Rs 1,500, they have still not received a solution.

The National Zoological Park Trade Union Federation convener M.K.S. Karunatissa stated that visitors to the zoological gardens will not be admitted due to the trade union action.

Meanwhile, it was reported on social media yesterday that a lion in the Dehiwala Zoo has escaped.

When our team inquired from the Director General of Dehiwala Zoo Dhammika Malsinghe about these reports, she stated that the reports are completely false.

Similarly, when inquired, the Dehiwala Police also confirmed that no such incident was reported.
