Since there was a shortage of sufficient numbers of government members in parliament to conduct the affairs of the House, the Parliamentary functions were limited to 50 minutes.

Accordingly, the Speaker decided to adjourn Parliament until the 17th of this month. The speaker turned his attention to the media reports regarding the absence of Ministers to respond to the questions raised before the House yesterday morning expecting oral replies.

He said that he was very extremely disappointed.

Meanwhile, a UNP MP today requested Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to change the meals in Parliament.

He mentioned that the meals were very mundane.  MP Mahinda Amaraweera stated that he and the other MPs have been greatly inconvenienced due to the adverse media reports regarding this matter.

Meanwhile, Opposition MPs today expressed their opposition to the government's attempt to present bills in violation of parliamentary tradition and pass it without a vote.

Opposition MPs demanded the withdrawal of the amended bill to impose a tax on foreign commercial transactions, presented today as an order of the of the Export Development Amendment Bill presented yesterday.
