Ceylon Teachers Union allege that more than 4,000 appointments have been made in violation of the recruitment procedures.

Teacher appointments to 4,286 Diploma Holders of the National College of Education was handed over yesterday at the temple trees by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

However, the General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin said that this is unfair by the students who had obtained higher “Z” Scores at the GCE Advanced Level examination.

In the meantime, 500 school buildings constructed at a cost of Rs. 10,000 million will be handed over to the students today under the ‘nearest school is the best school’ programme.

The National Ceremony is being held at the "Shishyoda", National Institute of Special and Inclusive Education in Weniwelkola, Kahathuduwa, 9,064 schools will benefit from this programme.
