Today, the three bench Colombo High Court ordered the hearing of the case filed by the Bribery Commission against former chief of staff of President Maithripala Sirisena, Dr. I.K. Mahanama and former Chairman of State Timber Corporation Piyadasa Dissanayake to be taken tomorrow. The case was filed charging the two officers of accepting a Rs 20 million as a bribe.

The case was taken up before a three-judge bench comprising Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.

The Bribery Commission submitted to court a revised charge sheet issued to the accused. The defense attorneys requested time to study the amended charge sheet.

Considering the request made by the defense attorneys, the court ordered to postpone the hearing of the case until tomorrow.

When the case was taken up today, its complainant, the Indian businessman K.K. Nagaraja appeared before the court to give evidence, and the court ordered him to present his two mobile phones with the conversation records, to the court tomorrow.

On or about May 9, 2018, the accused were arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs. 20  million from a total bribe of 54 million sought from the Indian Businessman for the facilitation of a sale of scrap metal and items belonging to the Kanthale Sugar factory. 

Accordingly, the Bribery Commission filed charges against the defendants on 24 counts and named 46 witnesses.

It is reported that 41 documents have been presented as evidence.
