The National Anti -Malaria Campaign requests pilgrims to take malaria preventive medication one week before visiting Dambadiva.

The director of the campaign Dr. Hemantha Herath said that although the malaria parasite has been eradicated from the country, there is a risk of the disease spreading again in the country from travelers returning to the island after visiting Africa and Dambadiva.

28 cases of malaria patients have been reported so far this year and all of them were returnees to Sri lanka from overseas. Five patients have been diagnosed with malaria within a week. The Director of the National Anti -Malaria Campaign Dr. Hemantha Herath said that all of them were returning from pilgrimage to Dambadiva.
