Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the Presidential Investigations Commission inquiring into fraud and corruption at state institutions during the period 2015/2018 that he is unable to be present tomorrow to give a statement regarding an investigation on the Rajagiriya – D.P.J. Building where the Ministry of Agriculture is located.

A spokesman for the Commission said that since the Prime Minister has to participate in several functions which had previously been organized in Mannar he would not be able to come to the Commission tomorrow. This was informed by his Secretary to the Presidential Commission today.

Accordingly summons have been issued to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to be present at the Commission 9.30am on the 16th.

When former Minister of Agriculture Duminda Dissanayake was present at the Commission yesterday in connection with this investigation, he said that Cabinet approval had been received to obtain this particular building and all arrangements were made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in connection with that.

It was accordingly that the Presidential Commission decided to summon the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam arrived at the Presidential Commission this morning to give a statement.

This was in connection with further investigations regarding a complaint that the Minister’s photograph was published in school text books.

Subsequent to the School Supplies Director of the Ministry of Education giving evidence at the Commission in relation to this incident, a complaint was lodged that the Minister had maliciously launched a disciplinary inquiry against the Director.

The Minister of Education arrived at the Commission today to give evidence in connection with this.
