Signs that the Administrative Services Union Strike will continue – work at many state institutions come to a standstill today as well

Work at many state institutions have been interrupted today as well, due to the strike launched by Trade Unions including the Sri Lanka Administrative Services Union.

They commenced this strike yesterday based on a problem regarding salary anomalies and it is due to end today.

As a result of the strike work has been interrupted at the Departments of Immigration and Emigration, Persons Registration and the Motor Traffic Commissioner as well as at all district secretariats, and administrative affairs at Divisional Secretariats.

Secretary of the Sri Lanka Administrative Services Union Rohana De Silva said that if the problems are not resolved, they will continue with the strike and that the approval of all members have been received for this purpose.

In response to an inquiry we made from the Minister of Public Administration Ranjith Madduma Bandara regarding this, he said that arrangements have been made to increase the basic salary of an administrative official up to Rs. 65,000 from July of next year.

In the meantime, based on a problems regarding salary anomalies which have arisen due to the budget 2016, non-academic staff and administrative staff of universities have launched a continuous trade action which is being implemented today as well.

This strike is in operation in all universities across the island and it is reported that as a result studies at universities have been interrupted.
