The carcass of an elephant was discovered the forest reserve of Anamaduwa – Nawagaththegama – Konekadawala.

It is suspected that this wild elephant would have died when trying to eat from a Hakkapatas trap.

The carcass of the elephant which was about 10 years old, was found on information given by an area resident, yesterday.

Meanwhile, the carcass of an elephant calf was found on the bund of the tank at Mannar – Manthai – West Parappukandaal.

Although wildlife officials were informed that it seemed as if this elephant calf was suffering from some illness, area residents said they did not come.

Our Hiru Correspondent said that there was wound in the mouth of the elephant calf due to eating from a Hakkapatas trap.
