The Parliament approved the extension of the term of the Parliamentary Select Committee probing the Easter Sunday attacks until 31 October.

It was Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella who submitted the relevant proposal in Parliament today.

The official term of this Select Committee was due to end on 30 September and based on a proposal adopted by the Parliament, this Select Committee was set up on 22 May.

Meanwhile,

Police believe the land in Paalamune, where a cache of explosives was found, belongs to a close associate of the Ampara Thawheed Jamath leader, Kalmune Siyam.

The owner has been identified as Mohamed Saleem.

Officers of the State Intelligence attached to the Ampara Unit found 3 thousand CDs containing the lectures delivered by Zahran from this same land on a previous raid.

The cache of weapons discovered today had been buried under a goat shed.

Among the firearms and explosives are: a T-56 gun, 30 live bullets, 7 detonators, a Magazine, 4 gelignite sticks, 3 kilograms of urea, 2 kilograms of ammonia, wires and several batteries and two varieties of unidentified explosives.

Both Kalmune Siyam and Mohamed Saleem are already in police custody.

Meanwhile, the CID informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate that the family members of Mohamed Azam Mohamed Mubarak, who blew himself up at the Kingsbury hotel on Easter Sunday, have rejected to accept the remains of the suicide bomber.

Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the Thimbirigasyaya Divisional Secretary to bury the remains at the Borella public cemetery.
