Archaeological workers engage in a protest near the access to the Ministry of Culture

A group of Archaeological workers have arrived at the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Cultural Affairs located at Sethsiripaya in Battaramulla requesting that their appointments be made permanent.

President of the Archaeological Employees Union J. M. Janith Sampath told the Hiru News Division that the group which arrived at the Ministry at around 9.30 am had been seated near the access door of the Ministry until the Minister arrived.

He said that two years ago the Minister in charge of the subject Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had recruited 1500 persons to the Archaeological Department.

Anyhow, 1450 employees have also been recruited under the present Minister, Sajith Premadasa and these archaeological workers arrived at the Ministry thus, expressing their objection to the decision made to make permanent the previously recruited 1500 at the Central Cultural Fund.
