Former Commander of the Navy Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and former Air force Commander Roshan Goonatilleke were presented with ranks of Admiral of the Fleet and Marshal of the Sri Lanka Air force at an investiture ceremony held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena today.

The function was held this morning at the Eastern Container Terminal of the Colombo Port, and the batons relevant to the honorary rankings were presented to them by the President, our Hiru Correspondent said.

A Navy and Airforce Guard of Honour were held on behalf of these two as well, on this occasion.

They were presented with these honorary rankings in appreciation of the service rendered by them during the Humanitarian Operation on behalf of the country and the race.

Meanwhile, evidence will be obtained from the President tomorrow by the Special Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to inquire into the Easter Sunday attacks.

The President had expressed willingness to give evidence to this Committee, at his office and it is accordingly that evidence will be obtained.

Anyhow, previously the President had stated that he was not going to give evidence in any way at this Committee.

However, later he called the Chairman of the Committee Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri and expressed his willingness to give evidence.

Previously, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardena, former Ministers of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayake and Ranjith Madduma Bandara who came to the Special Select Committee gave evidence.

Anyhow, Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri said that the instance of evidence being obtained from the President will not be open to the media.

Based on a proposal passed in Parliament, the official term of this Parliamentary Select Committee which was established on 22 May was extended until 31 October based on approval granted by the Parliament.

The official term of this Committee was to end on 30 September.

Anyhow, the Chairman of the Committee, Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri said that they hope to present the final report of the Committee to Parliament during the second week of next month.
