Deputy Leader of the United National Party Sajith Premadasa has informed the Presidential Commission inquiring into corruption and fraud during 2015/2018 that he is unable to come today.

This was in response to a summons by the Commission in connection with an investigation being carried out into recruitment of workers without a proper legal method to the Housing Development Authority.

Minister Sajith Premadasa had sent a fax message to the Commission at about 8.00 last night that it is inconvenient for him to be present at the Commission today.

Meanwhile, since Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne is unable to be present today at this Presidential Commission, he has requested that a date after the 25 September be allocated to him.

A spokesman of the Commission said that he has been summoned by the Commission to be present today on two instances in connection with two investigations.

It is said that the Minister of Health was summoned to be present at 9.30am in relation to frauds alleged to have taken place at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital during the time of former Director Susith and at 12.30 pm regarding investigations being carried out into spending state funds on the Malabe Neville Fernando Hospital without it being taken over formally by the government.

Anyhow, notifying the Commission last night Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that he has to attend a Parliamentary Select Committee this morning and as a result he would not be able to come to the Commission.

He has also mentioned that since a sudden meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been called for there is no possibility of him being present at the Commission in the evening either.

The Health Minister who has said that he is going overseas day after tomorrow to attend a conference of the United Nations Organization has requested a date to attend the Commission subsequent to 25 September, a spokesman of the Commission said.

However, the Chairman of the Commission who considered these requests has asked officials to inform Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne to be present today at 4.00 pm.
