The Department of Meteorology stated that heavy rainfall of more than 200 mm is expected in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Western Provinces over the next 24 hours. 

According to the statement heavy rainfall of more than 75 mm is expected in some areas in the North Western, Uva, Eastern and Uva provinces.

The prevailing rainy conditions in the island will continue until Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Center announced that the Nilwala River is very close to the spill over levels from the Panadugama area and therefore, requested residents of the area to be vigilant of the developments.

Landslide warnings have been issued to Kalutara, Kegalle and Galle districts due to the prevailing inclement weather.

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has announced that there is a risk of landslides in Agalawatte, Bulathsinhala, Dodangoda, Ingiriya, Mathugama, Palinda Nuwara and Vallalavita Divisional Secretariat areas in the Kalutara District.

Landslide warnings have been also  issued for Yatiyantota Divisional Secretariat of the Kegalle District and Elpitiya, Imaduwa, Nagoda, Neluwa, Niyagama and Tawalama Divisional Secretariat areas in the District of Galle.
