The Met Department forecasts heavy rain over 200 millimetres in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Western provinces within the next 24 hours.

The Department stated that rainfall over 75 millimetres could be expected in certain areas of the North-Western, Northern, Uva and Eastern Provinces as well.

Meanwhile, a 36-year old woman died after being caught in a landslide at the Kokawala Mountain in Wanduramba, Galle.

However, her two children have been rescued.

At the same time the Irrigation Department requests residents of low lying areas in the Nilvala and Ging river basins to take caution as the water level of the two rivers has been rising.

The Department also stated that the Ging River has reached its spill level at Baddegama.

It also stated the Nilvala River has also reached its spill level at Panadugama and minor floods have already been reported from the area.

Meanwhile, Southern Provincial Governor, Hemal Gunasekera said that government schools in the Matara and the Galle districts will be kept close tomorrow and day after, due to the heavy rains in the area.
