Several low lying areas and roads submerged - Water level of Nilvala, Kalu and Ging rivers reach spill level

The Irrigation Department states that the water levels of the Nilvala, Ging and Kalu rivers is further rising due to prevailing heavy rains in the area.

A communique issued by the Department states that the Nilvala River has reached major flood levels from Panadugama.

With the torrential rains continuing, several roads in Colombo are still under water.

The Police Spokesperson’s Office stated that Armor Street in front of the Kotahena Jethawana Temple, Kotahena - Bloemendhal Road, Jinthupitiya Junction, Kirulapana Road in front of the police, High Level Road, Baseline Road as well as several roads in Dematagoda have been flooded.

The Road Development Authority advised drivers to use alternate routes as the Kokmaduwa and Welipenna exits on the Southern Expressway have been inundated due to heavy rains.

A spokesperson for the Authority stated that vehicle movement towards Weligama and Akuressa have been completely stalled due to flooding at the Kokmaduwa exit.

Due to heavy rains, the management of the Katunayake airport has informed passengers to arrive at the Katunayake airport three hours before their flights.

Despite the rain, air traffic is being operated without any interruptions and passengers are requested to cooperate by arriving at the airport's departure terminal three hours prior to their flights.
