The Administrative Services Union launched the strike yesterday based on a salary anomaly.

The Joint Committee of State Executive Officers has launched a continuous strike from this morning based on a salary issue.

The convener of the Joint Trade Union Alliance Amarasiri Ketpearachchi stated that due to the token strike initiated by the Joint Federation of Technical Trade Unions, the technical activities of the state institutions have come to a standstill.

The Health Services Trade Union Alliance staged a token strike from 8am this morning until 12 noon based on several issues including salaries, promotions and recruitment.

It is reported that as a result of this strike, the clinical and ward activities of the hospitals have been disrupted.

It is reported that the government ambulance drivers have also joined the strike.

However, Convener Susith Arunasiri stated that they received a positive response from the meeting held with the Secretary to the Ministry of Health and the Director General of Health Services.

In the meantime, four disabled war heroes are still engaged in a fast unto death campaign in front of Fort Railway Station.

Although the Cabinet has decided to pay the disabled war heroes their salaries for their life time, the war heroes who are participating in the Sathyagraha stated that they are demanding that their wives also should be entitled to the full salary after they die.

In a memorandum submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday, the President as the Defense Minister had proposed to grant the salary of the disabled war heroes to their wife or if they have children under the age of 26 years after their death. The President’s media unit announced yesterday, that according to the amendments by the finance ministry, the Cabinet approval was granted only to pay disabled war heroes the full salary for their life time
