All train services have been disrupted due to the strike launched by the railways trade unions since midnight, demanding for a solution for their salary anomalies.

Station Masters, Regulators, Controllers, Supervisors and Drivers have also joined the strike.

The Secretary of the Railway Regulators Association Manura Peiris said that the strike would continue until the government resolved their salary anomalies.

While around 174 train journeys were cancelled this morning due to the strike, 6 office trains were in operation.

However no trains were in operation from Colombo Fort.

However a senior official of the railways department said that they will take steps to operate several trains this evening.

Meanwhile, the functions of government schools have been disrupted by the strike launched by the members of over 30 trade unions of school teachers and principals this morning.

Except in Colombo Royal College, the teacher turn out of other schools throughout the country reported to be less than 10 per cent.

Lanka Teachers Union general secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe said that the ongoing trade union action will continue tomorrow as well.

In addition, several teacher trade unions have staged a demonstration in front of the Forth Railway Station.

Police have closed the Galle Face entry road as the demonstrators have planned to walk to the Presidential secretariat.
