A meeting between the representatives of the candidates who deposited their money for the Presidential Election and the Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya will be held on the 6th of this month. Senior police officers have been informed to attend the meeting.

At this meeting a number of issues including the security on the day of handing in nominations, the number of representatives of a party who can attend the election commissions compound and the advertising campaigns will be discussed.

The time allocated to deposit money for the Presidential election is due to end on the 6th of this month at 12 noon. Also, the nomination papers of the presidential election will be accepted on the 7th of this month.

At present, 21 candidates have deposited money for the presidential election to be held on November 16. Today Battaramulla Seelarathana Thero deposited cash on behalf of the Jana Peramuna.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education announced that all schools in the three zones of the Colombo Educational Zone will be closed when the nomination papers for the Presidential Election are accepted on Monday.

The decision was taken following a request made to the Education Secretary M.N. Ranasinghe by the Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya. This is in view of the congestion that will be created on the roads around the schools due to the presence of representatives of political parties and their vehicles coming into the elections commission premises.

The Ministry of Education announced that in addition three schools in the Sri Jayewardenepura Education Zone will also be closed.

Accordingly, all schools in Borella, Colombo South and Central Colombo divisions of the Colombo Education Zone, Rajagiriya President’s College, Rajagiriya, Hewavitharana College, Rajagiriya and Hewavitharana Model Junior School in the Sri Jayawardenapura zone will be closed on Monday.
