All train travel restored to normal after 4 pm onwards

Railway trade unions noted that all office trains will be in operation from this morning onwards.

However the trade unions which engaged in the strike action noted that all train travel will restored to normal, in the evening hours of today.

The 12 day strike which was initiated basing an issue related to salary anomalies, came to an end following a discussion held with President Maithreepala Sirisena yesterday.

Owing to the strike action launched by the railway trade unions on the 25th of September onwards, commuters were greatly inconvenienced as a result.

Therefore the government decided to declare train services as an essential service.

The ministry of transport, under these circumstances, sent letters to employees engaging in the strike, on considering them as having vacated their posts.

Meanwhile the ministry of transport and civil aviation issuing a communique noted that as train services have been made an essential service, all employees who suspended the strike should report to work before midnight yesterday.

However the Secretary of the Railway Guards Union Manura Peiris Manura peiris noted that all train travel will be restored to normal by evening today.
