Over 20 houses in four Grama Seva Divisions in the Kurunegala-Wariyapola area have been damaged as a result of the strong winds experienced last afternoon.

The Director (Development) of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy Sulakshana Jayawardena stated that power supply to several areas including Kurunegala, Maaspotha and Wariyapola has been interrupted since last evening. The Disaster Management Center states that Puttalam-Mannar road has been temporarily closed from Eluwankulama area due to the rising water levels in Kala Oya.

The Puttalam Disaster Management Unit stated that there is 3ft of water flowing through the Eluwankulam shoe bridge.

As a result, motorists traveling to Mannar are advised to use alternate routes. Meanwhile the Disaster Management Center stated that the landslide hazard warning issued for the Passara, Ella and Haldummulla Divisional Secretariats in the Badulla District remains valid.

The Department of Meteorology states that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the island today after 2.00 pm.

Some areas in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern and Southern provinces are likely to experience heavy rainfall of about 75 - 100 mm.
