The Met Department forecast more rain in the North-Western part of the island today due to the existing depression in the lower atmosphere of the Arabian Sea.

The highest rainfall of 132.5 millimetres was reported from Nikaweratiya during the last 24 hours ended at 8.30 am.

The Road Development Authority has advised motorists to drive on the expressway at a maximum speed of 60 kilo meters per hour due to inclement weather conditions.

Due to limited visibility of the road, six vehicles collided near the 7th kilometer post from the Kahathuduwa entrance this morning at around 7.00am.

A bus, two vans, two cars and a jeep were involved in the accident.

Meanwhile, Two aircrafts scheduled to land at the Katunayake International Airport have landed at Mattala International Airport due to the inclement weather conditions.

The airport administration stated that the two aircrafts UL  266 from Riyadh and UL 230 from Kuwait arrived at Mattala this morning.

However, they stated that the two aircrafts were rerouted to the Katunayake International Airport once the weather conditions were confirmed as favorable.
