The Presidential Elections for the Selection of the 7th Executive President of Sri Lanka ended at 5 pm.

There was a total of 12,845 polling booths across the country for the  15,992,096 eligible voters to cast their vote.

When the voting is over the ballot boxes will be brought to the counting centers.

Additional Elections Commissioner Rasika Peiris stated that the ballot boxes are being brought to the counting centers after the conclusion of the polling and the postal voting has already begun in 371 centers.

The counting of votes for the presidential election will be carried out in 1150 centers island wide. There are 1179 general counting centers and 371 postal voting centers. The largest number of counting centers have been set up in the Colombo District totaling up to 169 centers.

The Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya stated that the first postal vote results are expected to be released at midnight today.
